Where did the summer go? I thought I had so much time to do all kinds of crafty things and I really haven't been motivated to get through the regular sewing stuff. Guess the weather will do that to a girl. I have, however, read several books this summer, and I mean maybe 7. That is a number far larger than I think I have ever read in such a short amount of time. So, I apologize for running off for so long, but here are those AMAZING picnic quilts I was telling you about months ago. We have enjoyed them a few times, I just love all of the colors! Thank goodness for a large scrap stash and free vintage sheets!!! I also used some nylon fabric between the two layers to keep out the damp ground, they are perfect.

Hope you are still hanging in there. Around here school doesn't start for another few weeks, so we are soaking up what is left of our summer and crossing our fingers for some better weater!

More Sewing

One of the things I love about knowing how to sew is that when you need, or want something specific, you can make it. Sometimes it requires finding a pattern, other times it takes thinking of your own pattern and hoping that it works. I feel like I have really perfected the latter of those options over the past couple of years.

I found this cute, vintage picnic basket during a recent antique shop visit and I had to have it for the price. Of course, what am I going to do with a picnic basket I asked myself, well have picnics of course my friend said as I tried to talk myself out of it. My love of the basket won out. Of course, I have already started using it as a bag, carrying sewing projects and magazines, so I decided it needed a liner. I started measuring, sewing and this was the final product. I LOVE the fabric and had been waiting for the perfect project to use it for. This was it!! Now I have a functional, cute basket for picnics or whatever else I decide to use it for, I am a happy girl! I also decided if I'm going to have a cute basket for picnics, I need a cute blanket to go with it! So, I set out to reduce my scrap basket by cutting 4" squares out of just about every piece in there. Approximately 290 squares later I have the beginning of a scrap picnic quilt. Stay tuned for pictures of that project, it is in the making!

And I have to mention the skirt pictured here because it was completely free for me! My grandma gave me the piece of denim, she had the pattern, I had the zipper and the fabric I used for the flower. I have been wanting to make a skirt with a flower for 2 years now and when I saw the denim, I knew it was perfect! I love the casualness of this skirt, but it can also dress up easily! I have already worn it a couple of times, despite the cooler weather, can't wait til it gets nicer and I have more opportunities to show it off! Finally, projects for myself! Back to the sewing machine....

Guest Book Quilt Finished

I wanted to add a picture of the completed guest book quilt. It looks so fresh and tropical, all bound and quilted! This project has been in its new home for a couple of weeks now, and also received rave reviews. I was so glad to hear the newlywed couple enjoyed their completed project! It was great to work with the gal and also nice that we could coordinate the project from opposite coasts and still have such an amazing final product!

Well, here are the pictures of the rest of the large bag order. I finished it last week and was able to send it out before the holiday weekend. They arrived at their destination and the bags received rave reviews! I am so proud of my work, they all turned out so beautifully! I have to say, I do have a favorite though, which one is your favorite?

I used several pieces of fabric from Amy Butler's new line, Soul Blossoms. There is some Amy Butler Lotus collection, Love collection and Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane fabric as well. Quite a variety! I have been working on some other fun stuff that I will post about later today or tomorrow! Enjoy!!

Project Updates...

Well, as you can see, I have extremely busy, although if I was only busy with this part of my life, I think I would be much further along on my projects. I have completed 2 sets of the bags for my big order, they turned out so nice, much better in person! (I think it is almost time for a new camera, these pictures are not as good as they could be, sorry!) I also sewed the top of the guest book quilt together and it's ready for hand quilting, hopefully this week I will get a large portion of that finished.

And I had 2 shows last week, a small show at our preschool that was quite a success for Mother's day, and the Garden Show that I did last year. Unfortunately, the Garden Show was a bust this year, so maybe I will skip it next year, but I came out a bit ahead of the game between the two shows, so that felt good! I was really excited about my displays this time around though, I had the dress form for my aprons and I added produce to the bags to show their size. So, live and learn!

I am off to cut some fabric for more of that bag order, I wish I could spend the morning shopping for fabric and patterns, maybe tomorrow...

Another Big Order!

Just thought I would pop in really quick and show you this stack of gorgeousness (is that even a word?). I will be using this mostly Amy Butler stack of fabric, mostly Soul Blossoms, to create 57 small tote bags for my now largest order ever! I'm really excited to be working with such beautiful pieces, the bags are going to be amazing! I separated the large job into 7 different combos in order to make it less overwhelming. So far I have the first combo about half finished. Luckily I have until the beginning of June to finish and ship the whole lot, so I'm trying to fit in sewing when I can. Life is crazy, so I'm doing my best, but am very hopeful that I will finish these long before their due date. After all, this time last year I finished 40 of these totes in 6 days, see this post, guess these will be a piece of delicious cake then! If I don't check in for a bit you will know why...

Kid Stuff

Well, I'm a little later than I had hoped to be, but here is the picture of the fabric I used for the new colored pencil roll and bag sets. There are 2 combinations for boys and 2 for girls and they all look SO cute!! I will just tease you with these fabrics and you can check out my shop this weekend for what they actually look like. Some lucky kids out there are going to be enjoying these really bright, fun fabrics very soon!

Market Totes

Hi all! I just wanted to let you know that I have put all of the new Market Totes into my etsy shop, please check them out! I am really excited to see what kind of reception they will receive! The produce bags I put in there a couple of weeks ago, have almost completely sold out! Also, keep an eye out for some more pencil rolls and matching bags. I think those are next on my list. A Glimpse

Well, here they are, the squares are ready to be mailed back to New York tomorrow! I am SO excited to see what Marcia thinks of everything! This is just a glimpse of what the quilt could look like when it's finished. It will be 48" square and has a place for 60 people to sign it. My house feels so tropical when I lay the pieces out!

Nice fabric choices Marcia, it will look amazing when it's finished! So, everyone out in blogland, this quilt will come back to me next month, stay tuned for the finished product...

Guest Book Quilt #2

I know its not the greatest picture, but here is the pile of fabric I will be using for my next Guest Book Quilt! I am very excited to do this project for someone I have never even met in person! She is putting her trust and faith in me to create a beautiful heirloom (no pressure right?) and I am looking forward to doing that for her!

Guest Book Quilt #2 will be the same pattern as Guest Book Quilt #1 that I made last year for my dear friend. The color scheme for this quilt is very tropical; teal, turquoise, bright yellow and white to name a few. Stay tuned for pictures of the squares before they are mailed away (to New York) for signing.

Meet, The "Market Tote"

So, here it is, I couldn't wait to share it because I think it is so fun! This is the new canvas tote I mentioned yesterday, just finished tweaking the pattern and sewing these babies up! I'm calling it the Market Tote because I feel like it would make a great addition to your farmer's market trip, especially with some of the reusable produce bags I just put into my etsy shop! It's a single layer of canvas, with some raw-edged cotton fabrics added to give it some flair and a handy pocket. I am going to take some pictures and add these to my shop as soon as the sun comes back. Could be a few days though. Until then, I would love to answer any questions or take orders. Not sure how much I will charge just yet, still mulling that over. Enjoy these bright bags, especially if the weather is as grey where you are as it is here!!!

Wall Pocket

In an effort to post some fun stuff I have been branching out on, here is the wall pocket I created for my own kitchen! I was fed up with the papers that sit on the counter and collect into annoying piles. It was time to figure something out, so I did the measurements and went to work with my canvas stash. I also used the red to match the top of my curtains on the other wall. I have been so happy with my de-cluttered kitchen counter and I always know right where to look for those papers that just don't have a home!

Pencil Rolls with Matching Bags!

Ugh, has it really been since November since I have posted? I am so sorry that I disappeared for so long. I have been sewing, not as much as before, but different projects here and there. I think of getting on and just posting pictures, maybe I will try to do that more often.

Anyway, I really wanted to share these SUPER CUTE gift sets I have been working on. I made up my own pattern for a colored pencil roll with a matching tote bag. Of course the tote bag was a breeze, since that's what I do best, but it took a little bit of measuring and thinking to get the colored pencil roll right. I'm thinking about writing a simple pattern and selling it in my etsy shop. Time will tell if I get to that. So, just had to share the pictures, if nothing else I want to make some sets up to sell in the shop.

I have also been working on some more produce bags and new aprons that can be used for gardening, crafting, teaching, vending, whatever you can dream up. Head over to my shop and check out the new items! Also, canvas bags to come in the shop, soon!!!

Guest Book Quilt

Well, it is finally complete, the Guest Book Quilt I started months ago. I really, really like how it turned out! The front is several different fabrics in a very simple square and circle pattern. The guests wrote on individual squares at the wedding, and I sewed them together when I got home. I used grey Kona Cotton on the back and the inset strip was one of the table runners from the wedding that I incorporated into the final product. I hand quilted this and really loved the results once I washed it. Can't wait to send it home to the happy new couple! If you have any questions about making a guest book quilt, feel free to contact me. There isn't much information out there about them, but you can really do whatever pattern you like. On to the next project, wonder what I can dream up...

Where oh where did I go?

I wish I could give you a good reason as to why I haven't blogged for SO LONG, but I can't. Time has just been getting away from me. So, I have a little catching up to do. Here is the run down of the pictures you see above, they are all so amazing in person!

First up, the Practical Tote I made for my sister using Anna Maria Horner's Festival in Tangerine. Unfortunately, I gave it to her last week, so summer is just about over, but it really turned out cute! The pattern was pretty easy, and I made a couple more that I may post pictures of, if I ever get around to taking them. I plan to use the one I made for myself as an everyday tote, I'm excited!

Next up, the baby quilt I made for my nephew that is going to be making his entrance anyday, I just know it! I used Dancing Dinos from Michael Miller with some plain brown Kona cotton. It turned out amazing. The colors are much brighter in person. For an added surprise, I pieced some of the fabric together for the back, love this quilt! Hand quilted too, quite a project! It's huge, he will be able to use it until he's 18!

Last but not least, this is just a simple wall hanging I "threw" together for my sister. It really was her lucky day last week once I got all my sewing done that I had for her! Just 3 simple pieces of fabric sewn together and machine quilted. Turned out very festive!

So, next on my list is putting together and quilting that guest book quilt I have in the works. Stay tuned for pictures of that to come. Really, next week, I'm getting to it. Fall is my favorite time of year to hand quilt, so I'm anxious to get it going! I will keep you posted! Happy October to all! Hope you are enjoying it as much as I am!

A Peek...

So, here is a glimpse of the guest book quilt I'm working on. Due to the fact that the wedding isn't for exactly a month, I won't be able to actually sew this together just yet, but I wanted to see what it was going to look like. It is kind of crazy, with lots of colors, but I feel like it will be really cool when it's done. Something totally different than I would have chosen for myself, but it is for my dear friend, and I think it will be perfect for her! Thoughts, suggestions?!

Now I'm off to sew a travel pouch and hopefully some coffee sleeves one of these days. So much to do, so little time...happily!

New Project

Well, much going on here, finally had a chance to get started on the next project. This is the fabric that my friend chose for her guest book quilt that I will be making for her wedding that is next month. I cut out the squares for this project today, and I will probably start cutting the circles for the machine applique tomorrow!! I will post more pictures soon. This quilt is going to be amazing!

Quilting

My goodness, when I look at the last date I blogged, I can't believe it was almost an entire month ago. I have been busy, I promise! I have 2 big accomplishments to mention here for the month.

The first one doesn't have anything to do with sewing, but everything to do with my precious children! Earlier this month, I created 5 photo books in the kodak gallery to document each of my children's lives up to this point. There is a book for each kid, for each year of their life, minus the current year which I will be completing before Christmas, but that's only 2 books left, I already did 5!! I don't think that you can fully understand the magnitude of this project until I tell you that I had to go through thousands of pictures and relive all of those years, then organize them into the actual books. Anyway, it was a huge project, I'm so excited to be caught up and I can't wait to complete one book per year going forward! The books should arrive in the mail on Friday and I'm more than excited!

The second accomplisment is a twin size quilt for my daughter to use on the new "big girl" bed we will be putting her into next month. I think I mentioned that I would be doing this project, and now it's done. The quilt went together in record time, and was so easy. I used Amy Butler's "Lotus Brick Path" quilt pattern with Heather Bailey's new "Nicey Jane" fabric line. And for the backing I used a vintage Holly Hobbie twin flat sheet. I love, love, love this quilt and I know she will too! Oh, how could I forget to point out the pink pom poms that are sewn into the corners, so sweet!

Next project on the list...A wedding guest book quilt for my dear friend who is getting married in Septmeber.

Drink Sleeves!

Well, I have been working on a large drink sleeve order for some very lucky moms come this fall! I just had to give a little peek to everyone else. I made 50 coffee sleeves, in 10 sets of 5 fabric combos. They turned out FANTASTIC! It was also fun because I was able to order some color variations that I don't usually choose, but it turns out I will order again. Most of the fabric was from Heather Bailey's, Nicey Jane and there were a few Amy Butler fabrics in there too. Will be hard to part with these, they are really cool!

I think I might make up some similar combos for my etsy shop, we'll see if I've sewn on enough buttons this week or not! And after that, I'm super excited because I will be making a twin quilt for my daughter. We are possibly moving her to a big girl bed at the end of the summer, so she will need a girly quilt! I will use a free pattern Amy Butler has on her site, and most of the pink and yellow fabrics from the Nicey Jane collection. I'm really into this fabric line right now, fresh, vintagey, and colorful! So, stay tuned for the next finished project! I will try not to stay away so long next time.

Wristlets

I have been meaning to get zippered pouches into my etsy shop for months. So, I finally did that, just a few minutes ago. I made up 6 zippered wristlets yesterday, please go to my shop and check them out! Acutally, there will only be 4 pouches there for you to see, I made this one pictured, to surprise a friend and I made one for myself that I didn't take a picture of. Let me know what you think. I have already received the suggestion of putting a single pocket on the inside. That will probably be part of the next batch. Is the price right? Would you purchase one for $8? I appreciate feedback...

Ahoy Matey!

Okay, I just had to share the latest sewing projects. My sweet pirate is turning 4 next week and we are having a pirate party, so he needed a new outfit. What do you think? With my grandma's help, I "whipped" this little number up yesterday, so much fun! He wore the outfit to the grocery store this morning and was turning heads down every isle. Wouldn't it be great to live in a world of make believe like that again? I'm envious!

And the kitchen curtains, are they just... happy? I have been toying with fabric choices and colors for a few months, then the other day, I just decided to do it. I used Amy Butler, Full Moon Dots in Tangerine, yep, orange. Kind of different than what I would usually do, but I LOVE them! And the red Happy Camper material is a great accent. I recently painted my kitchen a golden yellow and have been trying to decorate it using warm colors that remind me of fall (my favorite season) all year long. Wonder what my next random project will be, maybe a quilt for the almost ready for a bed big girl in my house! We will see what inspires me...

More Fun

So, you will have to excuse my pictures on this post. The weather here has been less than cooperative for good pictures outside, so I had to take these inside last week and they didn't turn out the greatest. Aren't they fun though? The first pic is my new sewing apron, made with Amy Butler's new fabric, Memento and Sun Spots. I am forever pulling strings off my pants after I complete an afternoon of sewing, so this will help with that, plus it just makes me feel special when I put it on!

Second pic is a clutch I made with some scraps from the medium tote in my last post. It was a pattern I found in my Amy Butler book, Institches. It was pretty easy, didn't turn out quite like I had hoped, but I might modify the idea to make my own clutch, it's been on my to do list for awhile, designing a clutch I mean. Maybe soon, we'll see.

The last pic is the travel bag I made for myself, yep, for myself. I have made enough of these for other people, and been needing one, so I used my favorite Anna Maria Horner fabric, Festival, and made it up!! I have it sitting on my dresser just so I can look at it until we take another small trip. Of course, after I showed it around, I had a few people say they would like to have one, so maybe in my free time I will "whip" up a few more.

Speaking of travel bags, I have been meaning to look for a pattern to make a larger travel bag, one that has pockets for shampoo and conditioner and enough room to put everything I need in one bag. Does anyone know of a good pattern for something like that?

I know, I know, tons of pictures, but I have been BUSY with my own projects and I thought you might enjoy some pictures!

So, I'm sure you probably recognize the wallhanging from a couple months ago. I finally finished hand quilting it, yes, all that is hand quilting and it looks AMAZING in person. I think it is the nicest wallhanging I have EVER made! I'm so excited about it, I think it will be up until Christmas. (ok maybe not, but a long time!)

Then there is the medium tote I made for my friend's birthday. We went together to choose the fabric, it turned out so cute, I just love the orange (OZ by Moda) with the black and cream (Alexander Henry)!

Last but not least, my new skirt. I used an A-line pattern, and didn't have the full amount of fabric necessary to do it all with the plaid, so I improvised and added the band at the bottom. Glad I did, I think it turned out better this way. So bright and summery, and so great to have a cute new skirt that fits. This fabric is Meadowsweet by Moda, I think it's the first line because I thought I saw somewhere there is a Meadowsweet 2 out now. Beautiful line of fabric, I would love to get my hands on some more of it!

Okay, that's all for now. I think this week I'm going to make some zip pouches from extra fabric and the zippers my grandma is letting me use, she is so generous with her supplies! Although, I was looking through books tonight and I saw a cute clutch purse, and a couple of my friends have been asking about those, I could use scraps.....

I'm Officially Published

Okay, if you didn't know, or didn't remember, this weekend the Woman's World magazine came out with the picture of my bag in it. I didn't want to actually get excited about it (too much) because I didn't feel like it would be real until I saw the picture for myself.

So, my bag is in the middle of page 8 and 9 in the May 17th issue of Woman's World, for all of you that want to go out and see it for yourselves. I have this bag available in my etsy shop here, for purchase.

I really am excited now, although it still feels unreal to say that my bag was randomly chosen to be in a national magazine that almost everyone has heard of. Anyway, just wanted to (re)share the good news. Thanks to all of you for following me, even when I wasn't famous! :}

Biggest order yet

Well, just when I was thinking that 7 bags for a bridal party was a "big" order, I received a call from my husband's aunt on Cape Cod (love that place!). She wanted to know if I could make 40, yes you read that correctly, 40 small totes for the nurses that work for her as an appreciation during Nurse's week. Of course I said yes, no problem, no stress and so it began! Several yards of fabric and many hours later, here are some pictures of my biggest order yet!!! It was such an accomplishment to take them to the post office this morning, only about 6 days after receiving the fabric in the mail! I feel so honored to even be asked to complete such a task, so no order is too large, no request too stressful...(I say that now) :}

Quick update about the show I was part of this past Sunday. Unfortunately, there weren't many customers, so I didn't sell too much. I was grateful though, because I made back what I paid for the table. The weather was really cold and grey so I don't think many people were in the mood to shop, oh well, there will be other shows!

A Success!

Well, I promised a Garden Show update...

It was great! The weather was very, Seattle in the Spring, minus the rain, which was all that mattered to me! Very windy, chilly and cloudy for most of the day. My sweet husband was amazing and so innovative in the ways to weigh things down. I would have been freezing cold and chasing flying bags if not for him! I ended up selling 11 coffee sleeves, 2 sets of produce bags and 6 totes (a few medium, a few small). So, I would say a success! Not to mention all of the exposure I received by just being there. Many people took my business cards and asked questions, so I'm confident that this will lead to more interest! Plus I'm excited now because I have several items for my etsy shop since I haven't been posting there as much as I would like to.

While I'm talking about shows, I should also mention the show I will be at next weekend. Yes, another show coming up! This one will be smaller and more quaint, but I'm just as excited. Can't wait to see what happens there!

Garden Show

Well, I have been sewing up a storm, with a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. I don't remember if I told you all, but I will be a vendor at a local Spring Garden Fair, here in Bothell this coming Saturday. I am SUPER excited, first of all because I was received an invitation, but also because there is so much publicity for this show that I'm sure to get some serious exposure! If you live in this area, please stop in and say "hi", there is no admission fee and I think it will be great fun, lots to see and learn! Here is the website...

In preparation for this fair, I just completed (with my sweet gram's help!!) 47 drink sleeves. I'm also planning to bring around 20 medium totes, 6 sets of produce bags and around 15 small totes. I found out about the show at the begining of April and I haven't stopped sewing since! Anyway, I'm a little overwhelmed, but really can't wait to see what kind of reception I receive. I will post pictures this weekend and all the juicy details! Thanks for all of the good luck I know you are sending my way! ;}

Sewing for Me!!

Well, I actually got to my own personal projects this weekend. I just had to post a couple of pictures to share, because it hasn't been happening that way for about 3 weeks now. I have been so busy keeping up with my bag orders and the steady demand!

I made this tote bag with some fabric that my friend sweetly surprised me with last week. I call the tote my rainy day tote because the fabrics look like a Seattle day, but brighter. I just love it!

And the flowers are a wall hanging in process. That is just the top, I am going to baste it and quilt it, hopefully start that this week, although I just got another large order for bags on etsy, YIPPEEE, so we'll see when I get back to the spring wall hanging! I keep joking that it might be done before summer starts. For now, I have an open wall waiting for it.

I also wanted to respond to a comment about my Oak Street bag pattern. I wrote that up last year, and have been putting off getting it copywritten. I would like to sell copies of it, I would be interested in selling it for your personal use in the mean time, if there is interest. You can email me, or comment here. Wow! I finally filled up my etsy shop enough that I have 2 pages, yep, 2 whole pages of stuff for sale, 27 items to be exact. I am SOOO excited! I just finished posting 3 new small totes and 8 of those coffee cozies/drink sleeves I have been meaning to make up for months. Go check me out, it feels so good to be full, more opportunities for people like you all, my fabulous followers, to find something you might like!

Anyway, I am waiting for a couple more pieces of fabric and then I will have another bag or two to put into the shop. I have still been very busy, which is truly amazing. Just when I feel like I'm on top of everything, I get more interest or another order. It's fantastic to be me right now! New Bags

Well, as I promised, here are some pictures of the new medium tote made with home decor fabric. You can see more detailed pictures on my etsy site. This new design is amazing, and I'm going to make one for myself when my fabric friend gets the new Amy Butler "Love" home decor line, can't wait!!! I continue to be crazy busy, but I have to admit, I took a short break from bags this past week to start a spring wall hanging for myself. I'm so excited, I will have to post pictures of that another day, as it is my other work in progress.

The rest of my weekend consists of bag making and more bag making, inbetween time with the family! I'm so excited because I have some pieces of the new Amy Butler "Love" fashion and quilting fabric line that I plan to use for small totes and a new Oak Street Bag. Anyway, it is getting very late, I should get going for now. Check back for more fun pictures and check out my full etsy shop. Wow, I can't even tell you how busy I have been. I have sold, or presold 11 bags in the past 3 weeks. There are these amazing women in the mom's group I attend twice a month, that are just eating up my bags! Everytime I bring some to fill an order, I get more orders. I'm trying to get a back stock here at the house, either in actual bags completed or just fabric to make as purchased, but because of this incredible interest in my hobby, I am just barely staying ahead of the game. I feel so blessed, I am in no way, shape or form, complaining about any of that!!! I'm just popping in really quick to give an update before I place my next fabric order. So, for all of you that are loving my bags, thank you, keep the interest coming so I can keep sewing!!! I do have a new medium tote bag/purse to show you, but I've only had a chance to make up the protype. I'll be back as soon as I can!!

Busy Me

So, I seem to be averaging about a post a week. With Valentine's day this weekend and President's day, we were very busy around our house, having so much fun hanging out! But I did complete 3 small totes yesterday, and have another one cut out and ready to zip together. Plus I came up with the dimensions for my new medium tote. I have been struggling with what I want that to look like and how the Home Decor fabric I chose will handle my plans. So, tomorrow, I will sew up that small tote, maybe tomorrow night I will put together the first medium tote and see how my plans work out. Anyway, kind of boring stuff, but there has to be boring for there to be fun! Here is a quick picture of the 3 small totes, thought that might make the post a little more exciting!

Amazing Fabric

Isn't it glorious?! This is the fabric I ordered that will make about 14 bags. I answered some of those, "what to do" questions and figured I would just dig in and start making bags for my etsy site. When the magazine article does hit, my goal is to have as much of a variety in my shop as I can, so I'm getting started now! I have toted this bunch of fabric to a few places, sharing is beauty with those that can appreciate it, now it's time to get out the rotary cutter...My plan, have a few bags completed by the middle of next week, so much to do between now and then!!!

Also, here is a picture of the pillows I made for the kids for Valentine's day.

I was going to make a couple of monsters, like the blue one, but I just felt like these might get more use and love in the long run. So, they get pillows and they are non the wiser. I think they turned out pretty cute, and I know they will be a big hit!

Drum roll please...
I wanted to tell all of you that one of my small tote bags will be featured in a May issue of Woman's World magazine. I heard from the magazine's fashion editor last month about the possiblity, but was waiting to find out for sure. So, it's official, I'm going to be published, what an amazing opportunity, I can't even believe it!

Now the fun (and the questions) begin!! What if I can sell more bags than I can make? How many bags should I make to put into my etsy shop to be prepared for the release? Which fabrics should I use? What styles of bags should I make? Should I put my Oak Street pattern out there?What about copyright and trademark? Are they necessary? How much should I charge for each product? Where do I start? Yikes, but I am beside myself with excitement, thankfully my husband is helping to direct me, as I can become overwhelmed with something that has so much potential. I really need a lot of luck with this one! Thanks for your wishes!

Fun Stuff

So, here are a few projects I have been working on, inbetween my sewing projects:

I made this little blue monster for my nephew's 1st birthday, he gave it the biggest hug after unwrapping! My kids even liked it so much, I am going to make them each one for Valentine's day, different body shapes though. They will be cute!

And the hearts are made out of felt circles. Here is the link to the directions...here. We added spray glitter, white beads and pinking sheared edges to ours. They were a bit time consuming, but grandma, mom and I took turns cutting and pinning to pass the day away, each one of us taking one home. We also made one for my sister, who was not able to join us for the fun.

I finally posted those bags to etsy, check them out here. This weekend I think I'm going to focus on making some coffee cozies to put into the shop. They seem like they would be very easy and quick. Then I want to start shopping around for some zippers to make travel bags. I can't seem to find a good deal on those, any ideas? I'm looking for 16" heavy duty zippers...

Projects Complete

I told you I was feeling motivated. I'm even posting faster than I have in months!! The computer is cooperating too, that always makes it easier! Anyway, here are my completed projects. The totes (Heather Bailey's Pop Garden & Amy Butler's Belle & Lotus collections) are going into my etsy shop as soon as I can remember how to make the files smaller. (I knew I should have written it down last time.) So, if you are interested, let me know. Hope to have them in the shop soon!

And here is the runner project I was working on. I don't know if you can really tell, but I machine quilted around the flowers (Heather Bailey's Pop Garden with Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks on the back), pretty detailed if you ask me. I was having so much fun, and my mind was racing to all of the projects I could use this new treasure for! Anyway, I need to get going for now if I'm going to make my mid-week deadline on the other bags. I still have to cut them out. Thanks for checking in!

So, I have to say, this year is off to a great start. Today is the day that I finally completed a project I have been wanting to do for months. I made 6 produce bags and a bag to keep them in. I am so excited about this project because I diligently take my cloth bags to the grocery store every week and it really bugs me to pull those plastic produce bags off the roll. Funny thing is, it didn't take much time or money, I just kept putting it off. Not this year!

I'm also giving a sneak peek at some fabric for my next project. My sweet husband bought me the free motion quilting foot I have been longing for since Mother's Day when he purchased my new machine! I'm planning to use the new foot on this fabric, not sure which design I will choose.

Last but not least, I'm working on some Oak Street Bags, and a couple of small tote bags to put into my etsy shop. My motivation level is up and I feel like it is time to start creating some gorgeous bags! They will be in the shop by the middle of the week, at least that is my goal. As always, wish me luck!

Sew Many Projects

Oh, my goodness, I have to tell you all that I completed all of these projects (small Amy Butler tote bag, orange & white CD holder, Amy Butler travel bag, flannel doll diaper set for my daughter, and small Anna Maria Horner runner) plus one more that I can't post, just this past week. I think I am officially done with my Christmas sewing. Now I'm dreaming up new projects to work on for my self!!

I also received so many complients on the Amy Butler (brown flower) bag that I think I might make up a few new bags and post them on my etsy site in the next couple of weeks. Of course, I have to order the fabric, get through Christmas, get through Christmas clean-up and reorganization, and then I can get to the bags. Yikes! It was really nice to have some new interest in my bags though! Maybe I can sell a few more in the new year!!!

I know it has been so long, I am so sorry! I have been working on so many projects lately that I can't even keep track of them all! I just recently finished 2 large twin quilts, one for my grandma and one for my father-in-law. That project was really cool because I used the hems of wool pants my grandma had collected in the late 70's early 80's. They turned out amazinly well, considering I had absolutely no pattern and no direction when I started washing the fabric!

And then last night, I finally had a chance to sit down and make the new Liverpool pattern by Amy Butler. I fell in love with this Anna Maria Horner fabric, more with each stitch. The only thing is, I'm not sure it is really a good color for me, I'm still trying to decide. And I think the next time I make the pattern I will use the next size up for a few spots. Otherwise, I feel like it is really cute and I can't wait to get more fabric to make another one, maybe something that looks more like fall and winter!

All in all, just trying to get those Christmas gift projects finished up. I'm starting to get the itch to make more bags, but I'm not quite there yet. I have too many scraps that are asking to be made into something colorful and cute! Let me know what you think about the Liverpool and the quilts!!

Okay, I have been really busy sewing, and some of it I can't post here, but these few things I can. Hope you enjoy these pictures. The clutches are from Amy Butler's book "In Stitches" and the bag is from Heather Ross' "Weekend Sewing". All were challenging for different reasons, but turned out so cute. Won't make the clutches again unless I have a lot of time and patience, love the bag and will definitely modify and make again! Let me know what you think!

Bag Review

Okay, so summer is almost officially over, and I feel like I'm ready to get back to this bag thing. I have been itching to make myself a fall/winter bag, so I'm thinking about a new pattern. Maybe this week I will sit down and put it into writing. Anyway, I promised a giveaway when things settled down, and I intend to do that, but first I wanted to post this Oak Street Bag review that my dear friend sent to me. She purchased one of my bags a couple of months ago and loves it, here is what she had to say...

"I have been meaning to write to tell you how much I LOVE the bag I bought from you. I was a little hesitant to use it because it is so nice and I am pretty rough with my purses. However because it is made so well it has stood up to my beatings. I love the pockets inside and the size is perfect. I use it as a purse and mini diaper bag. A baby bottle fits perfectly in one of the inside pockets and I also throw in wipes and a diaper if we are going on a shorter trip. I did take the flower off in front and appreciate the option to do that. I knew it would get destroyed if I left it on but it is so cute I use it as a decorative pin on my bulletin board. Overall, I love the bag for it's functionality, colors (goes with everything), and how well it is made. It was worth every penny and you have my 5-star recommendation. I'll spread the word!" - AM

Busy!!

I can't believe how unbelievably busy I have been this month, where did it go?! Just wanted to check in and let you all know that I sold 6 more of the small bags today. They are on their way to the Saturday Market in Oregon where they seem to be very popular! I'm very happy about that!

Also, wanted to get you all excited about the giveaway I will be doing when I get back from vacation next month. My pattern has been tested and approved by some very important gals in my life, I think I'm ready for an inital release to measure the interest. So, I will be gone for a few weeks, but when I get back, there will be fun to be had by all!

Flea Market Pic

Here is that picture I promised almost a week ago, of my bags at the flea market in Oregon. The two that were sold last weekend were the black and white bag shown just to the right of the middle bag and the Oak Street bag on the bottom right in Amy Butler's Morning Glory. I haven't heard if anything sold this weekend, but I will hopefully be making some more bags for this gal as the month goes on. Now I'm just trying to decide what to make more of, and what fabrics to use. Any suggestions of fabrics you would like to see my bags made up with? My friend at the Fabric Farm has a TON of new fabrics and I can't decide what to order, help me!!!

Quick Update

Just wanted to give you all a quick update. I have been sewing, just a bit, on Christmas gifts actually. Those that know my husband and I, know that we start every year in July with Christmas and are usually done before Thanksgiving. It usually makes us the envy of everyone we know, but keeps us sane! So, I can't post pictures here because the presents will be seen before the holiday, but I am making some CUTE stuff!!

My pattern has been successfully tested by two of the four testers. Both gave it very good reviews, with just some minor changes. Once I get feedback from the other two testers, I will move forward with printing and marketing. Not sure when that will be, but I'm okay with that. Just kind of resting right now, enjoying the summer!

Also, an update on those bags that I sold last week, they got rave reviews in their new retail location. I guess that two of them have sold. I haven't gotten any details yet, but I will keep you all posted! I'm just so excited that they are such a big hit, maybe I can get some new fabric and make some more, between Christmas projects that is! ;} So long for now....

Bags on the road

I am SOOO excited, I just sold six bags this morning, yes, six bags. If you keep an eye on my etsy shop, you will see that I pretty much cleared it out just now. I have been talking with a gal I know about selling my bags in her shop at one of the Saturday markets in Oregon. We finally got together, and I showed her what I had, she loved them all, but thought she would start with the six she chose. If they are a hit, I think she will be purchasing more. Now I have some money to get some new fabric, a girl has to love that!!!

If anyone else is interested in selling my bags, I would consider working with you to sell them, just contact me and we can work something out. What an exciting day! I was feeling a little bag lull because I ran out of fabric, so this is perfect! Gorgeous fabric, here I come.....

Been Sewing

Okay, so I thought I would post a couple of pictures here because I have been sewing this weekend! You can find these bags in my etsy shop. I'm very happy with the tote bag I made up yesterday with fabrics from Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks collection. And Amy Butler's Lotus collection is gorgeous too, blue is my favorite color and I love the splash of red. Hope to get to some more put together in different fabrics this week. I have so much fabric, there will be more cute ones coming I promise!

Patterns are still with the testers. I've gotten some feedback, a few changes to make so far, but nothing major. In the mean time, I'm enjoying some other projects for now! Hope you enjoy these bag pictures!

Banner Making

SO excited, I just found a website that I could use to make a banner for my etsy store. I always see people charging to make them on etsy for other people, and I was encouraged to try to find someway to make one myself. After about 90 minutes on the internet, I found this website, http://mybannermaker.com/ where you can make a banner with your own picture. Small Oak Street Bag

Well, two posts in one day, I have been busy! Just thought I would share the picture of my first attempt at a smaller Oak Street Bag. Turned out kind of cute. Unfortunately, it is a bit too small, will be great for my 2 year old daughter, but won't even fit my wallet through the opening. So, back to the drawing board, but a good first try. I will post another picture when I give it another shot.

Pattern Testers

I feel like I haven't been keeping you all informed lately like I should. I feel like I have been so busy, guess that's what happens during the summer! Anyway, I thought I would send a quick update about what's going on here.

First off, I have give my Oak Street bag pattern to 3 of the 4 testers. They are waiting for their fabric to arrive, but should get to testing next week. It was quite an exciting thing to get them bagged up and handed out. Of course, I am still figuring out all of the printing/packaging details, but they all got color copies and hand drawn pattern pieces (have to figure that out too). I'm excited! I've also made up a couple more bags these past few days. I will be posting another one to esty later today after I get some pictures of it.

Also, I am going to sit down and see if I can downsize the Oak Street bag a bit. I have a friend that may be able to sell my bags, but she would like something a little less expensive, and I had an idea this morning that if I downsized my current pattern, I could advertise and sell it with the full size pattern as an added value. I'm not sure if it will come out the same, or slightly different, but I'm hitting the drawing board in a few minutes, so we'll see what I come up with. Wonder with I will call that one, the Oak Street Mini?! :} Have a great weekend if I don't get back here I'm sewing like crazy!!!

Pattern and Cutting

Not much going on here, just enjoying time with the family over the holiday weekend. I did make the corrections to my pattern, and I'm hoping to pass it out to a few of my testers this week. I love the format and how it is coming together!

I'm also hoping to cut out some more bags tonight. I have actually been selling a few to some family and friends, so that is also pretty exciting! I'd like to get some more up on etsy, although I'm still not selling many through there, that's where the family and friends see the pictures before they request them in person, so I guess it is serving some purpose. Anyway, off to the cutting mat, cloth napkins, kitchen washcloths and bags are waiting for me! I do love to be creative and I've had such a great Monday! Hope you have too!

A Break

Just thought I would share what I made last night while taking a break from bags. Just a cute little table runner that I purchased the kit for. Can't wait to use the pattern to make some more of these out of my ever-growing scrap bin! Great Christmas gifts!!!

Also, just thought I would share my excitement, I have finished the 1st draft of my pattern, pictures and all. I hope to print it out and get it ready for my pattern testers this week. I am happy with how it is turning out and I feel like I have made it over the big hurdle of getting it all down on paper! Hope your week is off to as great a start as mine!

Patterning

Okay, after dragging my feet for so long, I am getting back to my pattern. I have finished "writing", which was really the part that I dreaded most. Now I am going to work on formatting this pattern in a way that is easy for everyone to follow. I have my trusty pattern publishing book handy and I'm going to start playing around. Hope it isn't too hard!

Also, a bit of exciting news! I went Quilt Shop Hopping with some special women in my life this past week, and there was great reception to the cards I passed out. I even had one shop very seriously and enthusiastically ask me if I would be willing to teach a class about how to make the Oak Street bag. That thought had never crossed my mind, and with my teaching background, it almost seems natural. Now, I just have to contact them again and figure out how it's really done. I couldn't believe it, yet another direction I can move in, I suppose the possibilities are endless!

And just for fun, here is a picture of the tote I created last week to carry the kids' things in when we get out of the house. It turned out perfect, I love how open and big it is, but not too deep, not to mention the gorgeous fabric that I had laying around as scrap from one of my bags! I know it's sad but bags just bring me so much joy!

Kimberly's Name Change

Well, I'm so sad today, but I realize the change was probably necessary. Instead of being able to call this bag the Kimberly bag after my daughter, I have changed it's name to the Oak Street Bag. I am starting to do some promoting at local shops and I didn't want my pattern being confused with Amy Butler's Kimberly bag. Although, it would be great for me, I figured some shops might not want to stock it for fear of customer confusion.

So, tomorrow I will be debuting this cute little card that my dear friend made up for me. We will be doing a local Quilt Shop Hop and I hope to pass these out at each shop we get to. Then I must get back to the pattern drawing board because I think pattern publishing is going to be a longer process than I anticipated. Wish me luck!!!

The Bags

So, here are the first 3 bags I made up with the new fabric. I was planning about 6 bags total with this fabric, so the next 3 will be some variation of these. I might switch some of the fabrics around, I haven't decided. I'd love to get your opinions!

Something New

So, this is a pile of 12 yards of fabric I just received from my dear friend over at The Fabric Farm I have been working on some new bags this weekend. I will post a picture of them all, probably tomorrow, but here is the first one over on etsy...

And this is something new I just "whipped" up this afternoon, out of necessity. I'm calling it the coupon clutch, it is about 6"x4" when it's folded closed. What do you think? I'm kind of excited, it was very quick and so cute!!!

In the Mail

Before I show you all what I have been getting in the mail, I have to show you what I completed this weekend. I love quilting and I have been wanting to try this little number for a couple of months, but have been busy bag making. So, here it is, just 12" square (completely from my scraps!!!), in all it's beautiful glory!!!

Okay, so here are the things I have received in the mail this week...

First up is the pouch I won from the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway day from Just Charming. I LOVE the fabrics she used and I have been wanting to make some pouches out of my bag scraps, now I can see how she does it! I am really enjoying it!!

Next up are the Rustic Rompers - I traded Barb at the Rustic Raspberry for these cute and comfy little dresses for my littlest sweetpea! Aside from having to double knot the ribbons so she didn't undress herself, they are perfect! Thanks again Barb, so much fun!!!

Last but not least - for those of you wondering about my pattern writing, it is currently on hold until I receive my pattern writing book in the mail. I should be getting it tomorrow, then I will resume that part of the process. Besides I have had so much to do, I haven't really had the time or the focus! Maybe this weekend...

Scattered Thoughts

I feel like I have about a hundred things I want to mention here, so if I'm a bit scattered, please bear with me!

First up, I finally had a chance to make up that Birdie Sling with the fabric from the other day. What a crazy life! I think it turned out really well, so bright and cheery. Here is a peek at it.

And then there is the fact that I ordered 12 yards of fabric yesterday from my dear friend at The Fabric Farm That is going to be quite a weekend full of bag making, let me tell you! Keep an eye here for the new Kimberly bags I will be making up once I get all of that fabric, I CAN'T WAIT!

Last, but certainly not least, I have received a couple of things in the mail the past few days that I want to post here, maybe I will do that tomorrow, I need to get a couple of pictures and I'm just not up for it tonight. I think that is all for now, until tomorrow...

Bag Review

So, I had a request from a good friend to make a bag for another friend. I'm going to make the Amy Butler Birdie Sling and here is the fabric I have chosen. I hope she likes it! When I get the bag done, I will post a picture of the finished product. I have to admit, it won't be this weekend, but maybe next week!

Also, as a side note, I want to really thank everyone that is visiting commenting on my blog. I can't believe how many positive thoughts are coming my way. I truly appreciate them all, and they keep me moving forward! So, keep'em comin'!!!

I'm so excited, I finally had a minute and a reason to create a label for my bags. I decided I wanted to use iron-on transfers to directly iron the label onto the pocket inside. I printed one up real quick today before I sent off another bright and sunny bag to gypsylulu! Didn't it turn out so perfect?! (I know the picture isn't really close up, but you can get the overall idea!)

Things are moving right along! I have ordered that pattern writing book, while I wait for it to arrive in the mail, I'm going to try to get the pictures I took last night added to the pattern writing I have already completed. Quite a process, but I'm happy to be moving forward!

Back on Track

Well, I'm back at that pattern today. I have started taking pictures so I can write up the cutting instructions. Maybe tomorrow I will actually sew the bag together, more big family plans this evening so I probably won't get to sewing. I think I'm going to check out the book that Stephanie talks about over at Loft Creations here, so I can become more confident in my pattern writing. Thanks to Vikki for that suggestion, I think it is just the motivation I need! I'm also wondering if I should try to find a store close to home to sell my finished bags. The ones on etsy aren't going anywhere and I want to get these bags out there. They are far to cute to be sitting in a plastic container in my garage!! That's a whole other project in itself, maybe while I wait to get the book in the mail I will pursue that aspect of this project. Hmm, where to begin...

Slacking!

I feel like such a slacker. I haven't revisited my pattern since the other night, and I haven't touched a piece of fabric either. In my defense, I have not been feeling very well and we are having a big family BBQ this weekend, so I have been trying to get the house ready. Lots more to do to prepare, but I'm going to try to motivate at some point this weekend to atleast make the bag that I will use to take pictures for the pattern. So much to do, so little motivation... :}

Pattern Writing

Well, I wish I had some pictures to post, because that would mean that I was actually sewing, which is the part I enjoy most apparently! I wrote out the draft of my pattern for the Kimberly bag last weekend, but haven't been motivated to type it up yet. I got up the nerve this evening, and it is tough. I haven't really written anything besides emails and blog entries since having my kids and it takes a bit to get my brain in gear. Not to mention this heat wave we are having which makes it hard to focus on anything. But, here I am, where I have been for the past 90 minutes, typing away, trying to focus on this pattern while watching a movie with my husband. I wish I were sewing instead of writing. I did take a break today from bags and cut out some very small pieces for a little 12" square quilt I have been longing to put together, that was fun for a change. Anyway, I better get back to this pattern writing, argh! But I will make millions when I'm done, right...

Been Busy

So, I have been "busily busing", as we say around here sometimes, during all of the giveaway hoopla! I just thought I would share a couple more finished products that I put together. The purple bag I made for my dear friend that has been helping me get this bag designing off the ground, and the white/orange bag is the one I posted on my etsy shop but hadn't posted here to show a final product. They both turned out amazingly. Each time I see the finished product, I get more excited about the bag! I've started writing up the pattern, hopefully by the end of the week I will have a good draft and I can figure out how/where to get it printed. Right now I'm off to design some business cards...

I am getting so excited, I have just posted my newest Kimberly bag on etsy and figured out how to add my etsy gallery to this blog. Today has been very productive as far as bags go. I chose some new fabric from Moda, here is a little taste. I will be putting this on etsy either tomorrow or Thursday depending on when I have time to actually make the bag up. Getting Ready

I have been busy today! I picked out some Amy Butler fabric for another Kimberly bag that I am going to put onto my etsy site for sale. I have entered myself into the Sew Mama Sew blog Giveaway day on Wednesday and I want to have some Kimberly bags for sale just in case you all really love them so much that you can't live without them! Here is a little sample of the fabric I used to make this bag. I will be posting it to etsy later this week, I need to get some good pics. Another Kimberly

I panicked yesterday and realized I needed a new bag for sister-in-law's baby shower, so I stayed up all night making the second version of the Kimberly bag. This is the version with the modifications I wanted to make after the first try. I think there are still a couple of quirks I want to adjust, but overall, I am REALLY happy with this new Moda fabric, it made the bag look gorgeous! And I did get a few compliments at the shower today, so that was satisfying! I also decided to add the flower, I need to modify it a bit, it was a quick effort very early this morning, but I feel like it achieved the look I was going for! For now, I'm going to try to write up a pattern for this and see where that takes me, maybe a new business will be born after all!

Birthday Bags

Another day, another bag. I whipped up a couple of small tote bags for some very lucky little birthday girls. One is for a friend and the other is for a cousin, hope they enjoy them. If they don't I'm sure I could find someone that would!

I'm also in the process of figuring out how many bags I should have on hand as I get this business started. I want to have a few of each style, but I'm just not sure. Then there is the business of getting labels made, which means I need choose a logo and that is only the beginning! I was feeling a bit overwhelmed this afternoon, as I set out on my adventure to buy some new and exciting fabrics, but I hit up my sister's scrap stash instead and that seemed to help with my bitter mood. I think I will try out my new design tomorrow, if I can get a couple of free hours...

Another Busy Day

Well, I had some time this evening to sit down and design another pattern. I also figured out how much fabric I need for the Kimberly bag and another tote bag that I want to make as a gift. I am so anxious to get these bags designed and made up so I can possibly start my own business and find shops to carry the bags, as well as the patterns. My dear friend is helping me get the ball rolling with endless ideas and enthusiasm, now I just need to put life on hold so I can pursue it all. If only it were that easy! Tomorrow I'm going on a fabric hunt, hopefully this weekend will be filled with sewing and projection completion...

My Own Design

I am so excited!!! I sat down yesterday with the intention of creating a new design, and I did it. From start to finish on my new sewing machine, I have my first original design. I am going to call it the Kimberly bag after my daughter, seems fitting, even at almost 2, she loves bags! The process of creating the pattern came much easier then I had imagined and that made me want to do even more. The fabric was just some scraps I had leftover from a quilt I made last fall, so I'm anxious to remake the pattern with some Amy Butler or Heather Bailey fabrics (my favorites!). I was planning to work on another pattern tonight, but am tired from a day of shopping and visiting with an old friend. Maybe later this week I will get back to it, turns out I will be teaching tomorrow, I do love that too!

Something Else

So, I haven't had a chance to start the bag designing, but I am getting up the courage. Instead I am trying to perfect my blog site, among other Saturday tasks. I thought I would post a picture of an Amy Butler Birdie Sling that I made last month for myself. I really love it, and I was happy with the way it turned out. I do love to make bags! Burp Cloth Bonanza

Okay, so here are the burp cloths I promised. I have so many more than I remembered, I need to get rid of them!!! I have posted them on my etsy store and I hope you will visit to take a look! They are made with bright cotton fabrics on one side and white terry cloth on the other. I designed them when my youngest was a baby and they worked out so well, the perfect size, 9"x21". Getting Started

Well, here goes my very first blog post. I am a stay at home mom of 2 beautiful children under the age of 3, so my life is busy! I LOVE sewing, quilting and designing. Right now I'm working on some new handbag designs and I can't wait to get them made up to sell. I also have some old sewing projects laying around that I want to get rid of in the mean time.
